چکیده

Poor sleep accompanied by little daytime impairment suggests that enough sleep has been obtained to satisfy biologic need. Decreasing wake time in bed, not increasing sleep, becomes the primary therapeutic goal. There is insufficient experience with this method to recommend its preferred use with a type of insomnia (e.g., primary vs comorbid, midlife vs late life) or with a particular pattern of wakefulness (e.g., onset vs maintenance). However, sleep compression does use an incremental approach to decreasing time in bed, as compared to abrupt contraction in the method of sleep restriction, and sleep compression may be better tolerated by individuals who are experiencing daytime fatigue or mild sleepiness, or who may be sensitive to abrupt alteration of their time in bed pattern.

Using off-the-shelf lossy compression for wireless home sleep staging.

BACKGROUND Recently, there has been increasing interest in the development of wireless home sleep staging systems that allow the patient to be monitored remotely while remaining in the comfort of their home. However, transmitting large amount of Polysomnography (PSG) data over the Internet is an important issue needed to be considered. In this work, we aim to reduce the amount of PSG data which...

Medical history of optic chiasm compression in patients with pituitary insufficiency affects skin temperature and its relation to sleep.

The hypothalamus is crucially involved in the circadian timing of the sleep-wake rhythm, yet also accommodates the most important thermoregulatory neuronal network. We have shown before that adults with pituitary insufficiency and history of chiasm compression due to a tumor with suprasellar extension fall asleep later and sleep shorter than those without such history and presumed hypothalamic ...

Retro-pharyngeal obstruction in association with osteophytes of the cervical spine.

We describe five patients with cervical spondylosis and large anterior osteophytes causing pharyngeal compression. All had dysphagia, two had obstructive sleep apnoea and another two had dyspnoea and stridor on inspiration. One, with perforation of the pharynx, required emergency tracheostomy. Only three had pain in the neck or arm. Compression of the retroglottic space was confirmed in all pat...

Ant Based Compression and Sleep Scheduling Technique for Target Tracking In WSN

The main challenges involved in target tracking applications of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are energy consumption, accuracy and security. In order to reduce the amount of energy consumed in target tracking, in this study, Ant based compression and Sleep Scheduling technique is proposed. In this approach initially the information of the nodes are localized and tracked through ACO technique. ...

Sleep monitoring via depth video compression & analysis

Quality of sleep greatly affects a person’s physiological well-being. Traditional sleep monitoring systems are expensive in cost and intrusive enough that they disturb natural sleep of clinical patients. In this paper, we propose an inexpensive non-intrusive sleep monitoring system using recorded depth video only. In particular, we propose a two-part solution composed of depth video compression...
